Greater altar and ciborium

Because of its grandeur and solemnity, in the presbytery stands out particularly clearly, the main altar surmounted by a monumental ciborium: ancient and precious structure, designed to accommodate the Eucharistic mystery; a giant tabernacle, with its harmony of forms and materials, once contained the Eucharistic species consecrated, signalling the real treasure of the Cathedral: Jesus present in the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
Today, because of the changed liturgical regulations, it has no longer this feature and it remains a precious decorative element in the background of the large presbytery; like a beacon that signals clearly visible, even from a distance, the place where the encounter between Jesus and his brothers happens in the sign of the Eucharist.
